“Catch the VIBE” (Voices and Images of Beloved Elders)
“Catch the VIBE” (Voices and Images of Beloved Elders), is a multimedia theatrical performance that shares the histories of elders, while exploring intersections of culture, history, photography, music, media and technology in the modern world. Under the artistic leadership of Julie Rainbow, Oral Historian, and in collaboration with local organizations, stories form the basis of a script; weaving individual experiences, of seniors in their 80’s and 90’s, together in a collective narrative that depicts the histories of a community.
National, world and local community events provide the framework for the stories (i.e. The Depression, WWII, the Civil Rights Movement, etc.) Collected oral histories from different cultures and experiences reflect the various dimensions of aging while drawing attention to family and community life which helped shape personal identity. This initiative reflects the lives of seniors living in diverse communities. This initiative is being launched in Philadelphia, PA .
